Descend into The Pitt..
Blending joyfully; ER, Zzzzzz, House M.D. Zzzzzzz, and a few new fruits, including himself: Noah Wyle; BOOM!It's called "The Pitt", and it's Pittsburgh ER, with Noah in charge. And by "in charge", I mean commanding every scene he's in. I hadn't realised how good an actor he is. But great acting alone does not make great TV. Fortunately; in this show; all other areas are equally covered. In other words; the whole thing is top-notch. To single out the lighting or soundstage or whatever is pointless; the whole thing is dynamite.
Writing: there's almost Pratchett-level character sketching going on here, as the camera continually pans, one-two-three--- and so on. Every trope is covered, analyzed, reconfigured and utilized; it's so often dreamy in its approach, throwing units of personal trauma into the fold of the massive operation that is actual ER.
Emergency Room. No one on the show says this phrase. Like the banning of "Aargh" on real pirate-show sets; everyone here is in a state of emergency; there is no need to spell it out.
Director and Editor are like Drum and Bass here; pounding out a beat your heart will skip along and then falter, and stop. ::Repeat:: Pretty sure my heart actually stopped that last episode.
This is Television with vision. Take deep breaths and enjoy.
BUT NOTE:
I have but one regret in life; that I didn't wait until The Pitt was finished its first season and binged the whole lot in a single 24 period.
This weekly feeding bullshit 80's throwback nonsense is interrupting my flow.
Thank God for decent House M.D. torrents.
