WAB! No, nothing to do with dreaming...

Worth A Binge.

Some shows, regardless of their otherwise awesomeness, have one scene, one moment that completely makes watching the entire endeavour up to that point, even if it was hours and hours of time-you-really-should-have-been-doing-something-else-but-fuck--- worth it.

So "following" this blog, you know I'm currently bingeing The Orville. And I get to that exact point. There may be more yet. But here I am, with all the world-building and lore and characters and intertwined arcs and so on and BooYah! This Showsmith strikes again.

I start to laugh, and I can't stop. More recently I have learned how to let laughter take me over, and I always feel better for it. This was one of those times, but with a TV show.

It's a beautiful Summer night; my windows wide open. I'm a few stories up so the direction of my noise is uncertain for passers-by. My laugh, oh how it must carry. Every flavour of laughter I know and a few I discovered just then spill out; a joyous baritone washing the street in every direction.

Laughter is powerful. And I know that it was beautiful because right near the end of my mirth (my belly now in so much pain that the pain itself was funny) I hear a couple outside, walking along the street this way; as many do late at night; but from the man's mouth all sorts of violent shit (this also; sadly, is common - my window is usually wide open) until suddenly they reach my laughter and Boom! This "Lion" becomes mouse.

Of course it won't last. They get home, he continues to treat her as slave, property, worse. But for a moment there he was overheard. That merry oblivion we bubble around ourselves in public; imagining a private world; for a moment shattered; and so to, the encounter, as it once was.

Was a valid place, but sacred no more. We have phones, and you never know who might be carrying one. I don't bother; recording, I mean. I do have some measure of integrity. Everyone is where they need to be and we all of us do need to learn.

;o)
