a road works cone embedded upside down in the ground, in the shadow of some pole. The pole has been recently erected, though the only evidence of this is the fresh concrete rubble forming the mound that is the mountain in the back of this map like, top down image. The cone part is superbly orange, and the bright midday sunlight forms stark contrasts around its foot's tread like underside; the pole carves a deep, dark line of shadow through the rubble (all sizes are represented, from eggs down to a fine, grey powder), and the left edge of the inverted cone; the dark gills of its underside like the boot of a man, frozen in downward motion, his body trapped in hard concrete and earth. The cone itself has collected so far a fist sized granite boulder, and a couple of small, scrunched up sweetie wrappers. At the far right edge of the image, composing itself on the apex of the right corner of the cone's square foot, diagonally set, a tiny yellow flower is the only colour beyond the variations of orange, green and gray that form the entire image, or is it a sweetie wrapper [permalinked view]
