Old Is Hard


It must be hard to be old.
Body's failing, 

society failing them,
not recognizing, 
this lifetime's worth,
life's spent, working, 
not realizing
we would abandon them,

deep in us,
a knowing, 
that they should be dead by now,
yet are alive somehow, 
eating, 
using resources.

We despise them, by degrees. 
How young are you? See!

Hang-ups from our caveman thinking process.
Nor do we pay them much, apparently.
